Drummer
and Percussionist Scott Blum started his music career at age thirteen playing with local
pop groups. Recently relocated to the Bradenton/Sarasota area his music experience
includes drum set and percussion including; Latin Percussion, Afro Cuban Percussion, Jazz,
Pop, Dixieland, Country Western, Folk, Latin, and Blues. Performances include dance bands,
theatre productions, parades, ethnic festivals, operas, concerts, orchestras, television,
radio, and studio recording.
Originally a native of New Jersey and a resident of New York he has performed with nationally
recognized artists including: Archie Shepp, Beaver Harris, Jimmy Garrison, Marshall Brown,
Dave Burrell, David Amram, Esteban, and Twinkle.
Scott Blums most recent performances were with guitarist Esteban in concert at the
Van Wezel Performing Arts Center and the Ringling Museum, Berimbau at the Van Wezel
Performing Arts Center, in concert with Twinkle at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center,
Sarasotas Hands on Heritage Festival at the VanWezel Performing Arts Center and
Robards Arena. He is the featured percussionist every Sunday at the Symphony Center in
Sarasota for the Center for Positive Living.
He is the newest member and first time ever Latin percussionist to join Don Scaletta and
the Jazz Project. The Jazz Project is a twenty-one piece band, based out of Orlando,
Florida that salutes Stan Kenton.
His experience includes teaching students at all levels including developing a Music
Therapy Component for emotionally handicapped children in the Palm Beach County School
System. Scott developed a childrens educational program that highlighted percussion
instruments from different areas of Latin America and performed for the 2003-2004
Multicultural series a Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Manatee Players
Riverside Theatre in Bradenton, Florida. Scott is the recipient of the teacher incentive award from the Florida Alliance for Arts and Education/Arts for a Complete Education. He also received an award from the Arts Council of Manatee County for his work with children in Manatee County. |
